Prajapati Daksha's son-in-low, Chandradev (Moon) is madly in love with Queen Rohini and neglects his other twenty-six wives, daughter of Daksha. This makes Daksha very angry with Chandradev's attitude towards his other wives and curses him to die with tuberculosis. Immediately Chandradev falls sick and the water from the earth starts disappearing. On Lord Brahma's advise Chandradev and Rohini pray to Lord Shiva with Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. Lord Shiva is pleased and decides to grant Chandradeva the boon, not to die forever. At the place of Chandradev's worship on the sea shore of Prabhas Teerth, Saurashtra, Lord Shiva establishes his divine powers called Somnath Jyotirling. By worshipping Somnath, people get freedom from illness.
